Pads. Now is interviewed by UC Berkeley’s URAP project

2023.3.12

Today, the core of Pads. Now community had a pleasant conversation with Ophelia, a scholar specializing in gender studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Ophelia is currently studying menstrual activities in China. She got in touch with us to learn more about local menstrual initiatives. We were surprised to find that we were one of the few high school leagues she interviewed.

During the 90-minute discussion, we jointly explored the original intention of establishing the Pads. Now project, our current main activities, and the predicaments we are facing. We shared our joy – seeing our friends benefit from our care box mechanism – and also confided our worries, such as insufficient societal impact and exposure. We also recounted our experiences of becoming feminists – the experience of encountering discrimination, our insights into Virginia Woolf’s works, and our interactions with our families. Conversely, Ophelia introduced to us the women’s studies courses at her university and how feminist activities are carried out in the United States.

At the end of the interview, she encouraged us to keep working hard and wished us all the best. We sincerely look forward to seeing her research results and also to seeing more improvements in the menstrual awareness of high school girls. In fact, if you want to be a part of this project, you can join us here. Or, you can also explore our project.

Here is the research link of Ophelia.
